Merriam also uses metaphor to compare the speakers emotions of happiness and sadness to the words of my own sun and rain. She wants to show how she is in charge of her own emotions. Thumbprint is actually an extended metaphor because the thumbprint Is compared with the Individuality of the person. A person has a thumbprint that identifies who they are, and at the same time, it shows how each of us is different. As Merriam states, it is mine alone and this emphasizes the sense of pride she feels for her distinctive qualities . The poem illustrates the speakers celebration of her life. Like the poet, I have examined my life, and now I value my differentiates. It was not always this way because when I was younger, I felt badly that I didnt fit in. I wanted to be part of the crowd, even though in my heart I did not share the same interests. When I went away this summer, I finally realized that It was okay to be yourself. I no longer feel like a follower trying to keep up with the In crowd, for I now follow my own Interests. For the first time in my life although it has only been 17 years long, I really treasure my separateness, and I value my life experience and do things for myself as am unique. This poem tells us that we are all unique, but most people In society Just follow In the crowd and do not really consider themselves as something unique. Merriam Is trying to tell us that thats okay, and to be you. But unfortunately with media and publicity it is hard, they make you think that you have to look like that to fit in but you don. The media controls all age groups and the younger you learn to be you the better. There are poems after poems and books after books that tell you to be you but nothing really over rides the media. Although when I was little I remember ready the book Your wearing THAT to school? about a little hippo that was so excited to start school with her new skirt but her friend who started school last year said no because she wouldnt fit in. Do you have to fit in? Can you not be yourself and wear what you want even in kindergarten. In conclusion Eve Merriam has the right outlook on life. She knows to be herself because If you do not be yourself than no one will now you because there Is no one 1 OFF because you want to fit in and be a part of the popular kids but if you fake who you are now after high school youll find a new group of friends and have to fake a whole you. Be you. Be unique!

The Instrumental Side Of Corporal Punishment free essay sample
# 8211 ; Parents # 8217 ; Reported Practices And Outcome Expectancies Essay, Research Paper Drumhead The topic of bodily penalty among kids is a controversial issue. A huge sum of research has been performed to measure the consequence of bodily penalty on kids. However, seldom has the motive to utilize bodily penalty been explored. The surveies included in this journal article focal point on the parents, and the results they expect to acquire from different types of penalty. Here the focal point is on what the parent believes the immediate, long term, and emotional effects will be. The parents of the survey varied in their usage of spanking, and were divided into three groups depending on the frequence that they used paddling as a penalty. The theoretical model of the surveies suggests that there is a correlativity between a parent # 8217 ; s position of spanking and the frequence of paddling that parent employs. The research workers hypothesize that, # 8220 ; Parents who report that they often spank will keep positive result anticipations about its usage, in contrast to the negat ive results anticipated by those who do non paddle. We will write a custom essay sample on The Instrumental Side Of Corporal Punishment or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page We expected occasional slappers to fall in the middle. # 8221 ; Two surveies were conducted. The first examined the result anticipations of female parents of 36-month-old kids. Sixty-one female parents participated. Of those 61, 90 per centum were white, and a bulk of the adult females held at least college grades ( 69 % ) . Ninety-five per centum of the adult females had incomes over $ 30,000 a twelvemonth. The participants were recruited from a database derived from newspaper birth proclamations. Mothers were required ab initio to finish a questionnaire to find the frequence that they spanked or slapped their kids as a response to child misbehavior. The participants were so divided into three classs: Never slappers, Occasional slappers, and Frequent slappers. The Never slappers reported neer paddling or slapping, the Occasional slappers spank/slap less than one time a hebdomad, and the Frequent slappers spank/slap at least one time or twice a hebdomad. Through interaction with a computing machine, the participants were presented with four sketc hs picturing different types of misbehaviour: equal aggression ( child hits a friend ) , rebelliousness utilizing an object ( child opens a friend # 8217 ; s birthday nowadays after being told non to ) , fit and devastation ( child throws a fit and destroys a bar ) , and rebelliousness with nutrient ( kid eats some confect when told non to ) . After sing each sketch on the computing machine screen, the female parents were asked to conceive of themselves paddling, concluding, or utilizing clip out with their kid as a response to each misbehaviour. Then they were asked to rate the likeliness of 6 results happening as a consequence of each punishmen t. Three of the results were considered kid based, and included ( a ) behave suitably right off, ( B ) learn to act suitably in the hereafter, and ( degree Celsius ) experience hurt. The balance were parent based results and include ( vitamin D ) was appropriate, ( vitamin E ) allows clip for appeasement of the female parent and kid, and ( degree Fahrenheit ) consequences in experiencing guilty. Some of the consequences of the study from the first survey are shown below in Table 1. Participants rated the likeliness of the results on 7-point graduated tables. The consequences of the first survey seem to back up the hypothesis: ââ¬Å"Motherââ¬â¢s who use paddling comparatively often believe in its instrumentality.â⬠The 2nd survey was similar to the first, but was expanded to include male parents of 36-month-old kids, other anticipations, and different types of misbehaviours. The hypothesis of the 2nd survey was somewhat different than the first. Forty-two female parents and 42 male parents participated in the 2nd survey. Again, the participants were largely college educated middle-class Whites. The purpose of the 2nd survey was to analyze different degrees of escalated conflictual interaction and different classs of misbehaviour. The classs include safety, moral, and socially conventional. The information acquisition method was non changed. Researchers # 8220 ; anticipated that frequent slappers, compared with other parents, would anticipate kids to follow instantly and demo regard for parental authorization after being spanked. # 8221 ; Review One positive property of this survey is that it was good structured. The samples were chosen intelligently so as to avoid parental prejudice from impacting the consequences. The misbehavior sketchs were chosen carefully as were the expected result picks. The usage of computing machines was besides an intelligent pick. By utilizing computing machines to carry on the studies, the research workers eliminated the timely procedure of come ining informations into the computing machine by manus. Besides, the informations decrease could be done automatically as the consequences were entered into the computing machine. One major failing in the survey was the sample. The bulk of the participants in both surveies were college educated and married. Although the research workers recognized this job, they still tried to generalise the consequences to a larger population. Another facet of the survey that could hold skewed the consequences was the method in which the information was collected. While parents are at a computing machine replying inquiries, they have clip to reflect and analyse the actions. This job could hold been present particularly in the often spank group. One job particular to the 2nd survey was lucidity. By spread outing the survey excessively much, the informations obtained became difficult to construe. The consequences of the 2nd survey were confounding.

How to Make a Strong Thesis Statement
How to Make a Strong Thesis Statement Weve all been there: up into the late hours of the night, struggling through writing a paper that you are completely unsure about (that just so happens to be due tomorrow). Your paper seems to meander and not make sense and you are frustrated. Most often when we struggle with a paper its because our thesis statements arent in order.Think of your papers thesis statement like a coverline on the front of a magazine. Though the story inside may be hundreds or even thousands of words long, the coverline on the front details what the story is about in just a few succinct, compelling words. The coverline will give you an argument as to why you should pick the magazine up from the rack and put it on the conveyor belt along with your other groceries. The same goes for your papers thesis statement. Its purpose in your paper is to make an argument about your topic in a way that pieces and organizes all of your evidence together. The thesis statement should keep the reader engaged and make them want to read more. Most importantly, the thesis statement should perfectly sum up what the rest of the paper is saying. Have you ever seen a really good movie trailer and then been extremely disappointed by the movie itself because it wasnt what the trailer portrayed it to be? Think about that as you write a thesis statement to go in your paper. You want your thesis statement to be compelling, but you also want your thesis to be backed up with evidence in the body of the paper so that the reader doesnt feel duped at the end.So, you know that a thesis statement is important and central to your paper, but how do you go about writing an effective one? Here are a few examples of what to do (and what not to do) when writing your thesis statement. The thesis should go at the beginning of the paperBecause the thesis is so central and integral to how the rest of your paper reads, it should go in the first paragraph (or at least one of the first few paragraphs) in the paper. Much like a lede s entence in a newspaper article, the thesis tells the reader what the rest of the article is about and clues them into what they can expect the rest of the way. If the thesis were to go anywhere but the beginning, this would be confusing to your audience as they wouldnt know the point of why they were reading in the first place. The thesis statement is the starting point of your race.Make your thesis give direction to the rest of your paperAll thesis statements make arguments about your topic, but good thesis statements give direction to how the rest of the paper will be shaped. In order to accomplish this, your thesis should lend itself to several reasons that elaborate on your claim. For example, the thesis College athletes should be paid, while certainly an argument, isnt effective because it lacks a sense of structure. This argument doesnt naturally lend itself to body paragraphs. However, if you wrote your thesis as, College athletes deserve compensation because it is the ethical and moral thing to do, then you have two potential reasons that support your claims, thus giving shape to the rest of the paper.Because you have added in a claim to your argument, you can now spend several paragraphs discussing (with your evidence to back it up) things such as the time college athletes devote to their sport and then several paragraphs on how many collegiate athletes come from poverty and how difficult it is for them to make it. With these claims it will be much easier for you to figure out how to structure your paper effectively.A good thesis statement should give your paper direction.Make sure your argument is debatableThough its good to question everything that you learn with a bit of healthy skepticism, there are certain truths that we as a public already know. For example, everyone knows that rent is high in New York City. This statement is unequivocal and therefore it would not be interesting to write a thesis statement that simply said, New York Citys rents a re among the highest in the world. This isnt something that can be argued for or against- it is simply a fact that most people know. The moment your fact becomes an actual thesis statement is when you add the argument to it. You could take your fact: New York Citys rents are among the highest in the world and then add the argument, and should be rent controlled in order to preserve the multi-cultural and unique identity that it has historically had.Only when you add the argument does it really become a thesis statement (and also becomes something that your audience would likely want to read on about).A thesis statement requires an argument to discuss.Smaller is better when it comes to thesis statementsPapers are often more focused when the argument you are trying to make is smaller. If your argument is overly broad (think something like, child care should be more affordable in the United States), then your paper will most likely be meandering and lack a sense of direction. With a top ic so large, there is too much information to cover effectively in such a short amount of time and space. When you make the argument smaller and localize it (something like Childcare should be publicly subsidized in California), then its easier to zero in on facts and provide evidence to your audience.A small thesis statement is focused and effective.Ensure that your thesis statement actually answers the research questionSometimes you may be so busy researching and making sure that your thesis statement is effective that you may forget to check if the paper is actually responding correctly to the paper prompt. For example, if your teacher asked you to write an essay on Atticus Finchs parenting style in To Kill a Mockingbird, then writing your paper and your thesis statement on how Boo Radley is the mockingbird wont be answering the question. Even if the essay and thesis statement are strong, the paper wont be addressing the issue your teacher wanted you to explore.Answering the teac hers question is necessary for a thesis statement.Your thesis will emerge from the writing process (particularly from revisions)Many novice writers think that your thesis statement should come out fully formed when they first start typing. What really happens is that you have a loose idea of an argument when you first start and the more you read and write on your subject, the clearer your argument will become. The thesis statement will really take shape, however, when you are in the thick of the writing process. As you revise, trim, rearrange, and add your paragraphs, your thesis statement will have more clarity. Remember, your thesis statement should be a succinct summary of what your body of evidence is saying. As you write, you will refine your thesis statement.Nuance is okayIn an academic argument its not necessarily about earth shattering revelations as much as it is approaching a question in a new way or coming to a new insight of a particular problem. For example, instead of a thesis that claims to solve world peace, a thesis on what you can do to make your local community a better place can be much more powerful. Dont feel like you have to solve all of the worlds problems in your paper. A good argument doesnt solve major problems; it looks at problems under a new light. Good research is done in small increments and often looking at things under a microscope rather than making grand pronouncements.Focus on smaller issues rather than the big picture.Thesis statement examplesThe following are a few examples of weak thesis statements versus effective and strong thesis statements on well-known paper topics. Use these example thesis statements as a guide to help you think about how you should structure your argument for your particular topic. (Note that these essay topics are for example and are very general and should not be copied for the purposes of your essay.)Topic 1: Climate ChangeWhat not to do: Climate change is man-made.How to fix it: Due to the harr owing statistics of climate change, communities should lead the way in diminishing the effects of global warming by investing more in recycling, public transportation and/or carpooling, and promoting the use of clean energy. Why we fixed it: The first thesis statement definitely gives an argument, but doesnt provide any context or evidence on why the author has come to this conclusion. The first statement is also very broad; the topic is too large and would easily get off track in the body of the paper. The second statement has been narrowed down significantly. It provides solutions and gives the writer a loose structure to follow in the rest of the paper.Topic 2: The Great GatsbyWhat not to do: F. Scott Fitzgerald has a negative view of the American Dream. How to fix it: Jay Gatsbys quick rise in social stature and economic status and his ultimate undoing by the old money crowd in F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby represents the authors skeptical and pessimistic view of the so-ca lled American Dream. Why we fixed it: Though this first statement is an argument that is debatable, it doesnt really give us any context or claims as to how F. Scott Fitzgerald shows us this in his writing. In the second thesis statement, we can clearly see how the writer came to this conclusion about Fitzgeralds opinion through concrete evidence. We can also see how the writer will be able to organize the rest of the paragraphs and discuss Gatsbys social stature, economic status, and the conflict between new and old money.Topic 3: To Kill a MockingbirdWhat not to do: Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird tells us exactly how to fix racism. How to fix it: Tom Robinsons unfair conviction and death in Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird sheds light on the role of systemic racism in the American justice system. Why we fixed it: This statement reveals something interesting and sheds new light on a problem. The first thesis statement makes a very grand and overarching claim that cant possibly be supported by evidence. Again, its always best to narrow down your argument and remember that you dont need to solve all of the worlds problems in your paper.Topic 4: Obesity in American Children in the SouthWhat not to do: Children in the Southern part of the United States are more likely to be obese. How to fix it: Childhood obesity rates in the South have doubled in the last 30 years because of poor access to healthy foods, an increased dependence on technology for entertainment, and high poverty levels in the southern region of the United States. Why we fixed it: The first statement isnt really an argument, but more of a summary of what the literature says. It doesnt really explain why children from the South are more likely to be obese. The second thesis statement, however, provides us with some insight as well as gives us a structure for the rest of the paper with three concrete reasons that we can go into depth about. How to go forwardIts no secret that writing is tough. In fact, its one of the toughest things youll do in your academic career. However, lots of practice and a clear understanding of how to write a thesis, how it works best, and what things you will need to include in it will make you a better writer and also a better researcher.

How does the reward scheme system implemented by organisations help to Dissertation
How does the reward scheme system implemented by organisations help to increase the sales profit - Dissertation Example These are all ascertained within the UK and HK contexts, respectively. Design/methodology/approach. The study is a quantitative research, which takes on a descriptive-correlational research design. Using a purposive sample of UK and HK patrons of Tesco and ParknShop, the research made use of a survey questionnaire to gather primary data and address the objectives of the study. The responses were encoded onto the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17.0 for statistical analysis. Findings. The study found that satisfaction with the loyalty scheme is significantly correlated with the frequency of shopping at the retail entity for both UK and HK samples. Moreover, satisfaction with the loyalty scheme is significantly correlated with frequency of using the loyalty scheme card for both UK and HK samples. The Chi-square tests suggest that for UK and HK patrons, there is an apparent judgment on customer loyalty as contributed by loyalty schemes, and this is primarily p ositive. These suggest that both UK and HK customers have a relatively positive attitude towards the value and contribution of loyalty schemes in building customer loyalty. Loyalty schemes are significantly correlated with frequency of recommending the loyalty scheme card to friends and family for both samples. The outcomes indicate that there seems to be a relationship between beliefs and loyalty behaviours for UK and HK patrons. ... Such loyalty schemes should be further investigated in terms of their effectiveness in maximising value for their patrons and profitability. Tesco and ParknShop should make a continual effort to instill stronger engagement from its clients to enhance their customer value proposition at the least possible expense. There are other relationship marketing programmes which may serve a similar purpose such as discount coupons, personalised offers, credit cards for the retail institution, among others. Keywords: Customer loyalty in retail, retail marketing, customer loyalty, Tesco, ParknShop Chapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Introduction Technologyââ¬â¢s overarching aim is to enhance organisational performance (Jackson 2005). One technological means of increasing customer retention is through effectual loyalty schemes (Raman, Wittmann, and Rauseo, 2006), which may assist the enterprise in transforming cold data into warm, personalised relationships. Over the long haul, this dovetailed use of lo yalty schemes may lead to a sharp understanding of customers ââ¬â their profile, needs, and wants ââ¬â towards enhancing their sense of loyalty to the products and services of the organisation (Oliver 1997; Shimp 2003). Loyalty schemes may entail or incur considerable cost from the organisation; however, it may also significantly reduce the advertising cost that is necessary for attracting new patrons. Some critics contend that it may loyalty schemes may no longer beneficial in improving organisational performance (Reichheld, Markey, and Hopton 2000),. In particular, loyalty schemes have been widely use by grocery, travel and retail sectors, including the Tesco Clubcard, Boots Advantage Card and the Nectar Card within the specific context of the UK. There are several reasons

Life after Hurricane Katrina Personal Statement
Life after Hurricane Katrina - Personal Statement Example I was forced to develop my critical thinking skills when I spent six months trying to find a job but got nowhere. I was at a crossroads where I needed to make a decision about whether my time was better spent continuing to look for work, which may or may not have been a fruitful search, or whether I should rededicate myself to pursuing academics in order to invest in my future and in my husband's future. The latter decision would be an enormous sacrifice. We really needed to make ends meet; and finding a way to boost my income rather than spending money on my education would have been the easy decision to make. Nevertheless, after seriously thinking through the options, I began to realize that making the choice to go to work now would have meant giving up on my future. I had to think critically about what I would be gaining and losing under both options. Working right away would have helped us to live more comfortably in the short term, but would have locked us into a situation where we would always be living on the edge of subsistence. Perhaps most importantly, I knew I would never really be happy. I had decided long ago that my happiness was directly linked to my work in the medical profession. I began to realize I would always harbor some resentment toward myself if I gave up on that dream in order to placate a temporary crisis in my life. Researching my options for breaking back into the medical profession led me to discover that this was the right course of action. It has been my lifelong vision to care for the health and the quality of life of other human beings. Ultimately, my ability to think critically led me to the conclusion that I needed to think with my heart and never give up on my hopes and dreams, regardless of whatever crises I might be confronted with in my life. Moreover, Katrina's impact on my life has led me to the conclusion that perseverance is the fundamental ingredient for achieving any kind of dreams that one may have. Perseverance entails not only a willingness, but an absolute resolve to stay the course in the pursuit of one's goals, despite even the most serious challenges that may arise. Without perseverance, it is easy to get side-tracked and lose focus on the ultimate objective. Perseverance enables a person to transform an apparent tragedy like Katrina into a real opportunity to further one's progress toward a goal. Without it, the ramifications of that hurricane would be affecting my life today to a much greater extent that it has been allowed to. Perseverance is the key tool for saying "no" to a tragedy: "you will NOT rob me of my goals and dreams!" Perseverance has also come into play in my life when other, less serious, challenges have arisen. It has enabled me to be true to my values at many points in my life. My values, including my prioritization of family, work and other responsibilities, my guidelines for my treatment of others, my principles for handling ethical dilemmas, and my overall life philosophy, have all been heavily influenced by various people, institutions and events in my life. Perseverance has enabled me to stay grounded in my values regardless of what life has thrown at me. There have been many experiences in my life that

Brave New World Essay Example for Free
Brave New World Essay In the novel, Brave New World, the concept of class in society was basically predetermined by the government. Generally, every of aspect of the peopleââ¬â¢s lives, such as birth, growth, and death is controlled by government-manipulated technology. The government controls life by cloning thousands of human embryos in a facility called the Central London Hatching and Conditioning Center. After the cloning process, the embryos are manipulated to become fully-grown humans and divided into the different classes of the societyââ¬â¢s caste system, namely, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon. The humans belonging to the Alpha class are the most intellectually and physically-developed ones and are conditioned to become the leaders of the World State while the others are less developed and have minor roles in the society. The Beta class are also conditioned to be intellectual human beings but do not posses the same skills and intelligence as the humans in the Alpha class. On the other hand, the humans belonging to the Delta and Gamma classes are mainly workers for the higher classes. Lastly, humans in the Epsilon class possess little or no intelligence and only perform menial labor. Furthermore, in the novel, there is also another class which is comprised of ââ¬Å"exilesâ⬠of the society. This class is basically isolated from the rest of the world as it is located in an area called ââ¬Å"The Savage Reservation,â⬠which is a place where all the things that are not present in prevailing society, such as marriage, natural childbirth, and religion, still exist. Basically, these various concepts of class in the novel can be related to the different classes of society and the general ideas of success and failure in modern America. In Americas contemporary setting, the different classes of society can be divided into three: the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class or the rich, the average, and the poor. When compared to the caste system in the novel, the upper class is the Alpha class, the middle class is the Beta class, and the Delta, Gamma, and Epsilon class are the lower classes. For example, in the modern setting, people who do menial labor like the human beings who belong to the Epsilon class in the novel, are the ones who usually did not finish school due to various reasons such as poverty. This condition is basically considered a ââ¬Å"failureâ⬠in contemporary America as the person is unable to go up the ranks in society. Moreover, the condition of this type of person will be passed on to future generations unless his or her children are able to overcome their main obstacle, which is poverty, and get a good education. The same applies to the Epsilon class. As portrayed in the novel, the Epsilon class is the lowest class in the caste system who have little or no intelligence, which can be translated in modern America as lack or inability to get a good education. In contrast, people who were able to get a decent education and have a modest lifestyle is similar to the Beta class in the novel as both generally enjoy a sustainable amount of success. However, there is little to no chance that people belonging to both classes would further go up societys ranks. On the other hand, people who are rich and influential like the humans who belong to the Alpha class as portrayed in the novel usually end up owning multi-million businesses or winning top government posts. In other words, these are the people who control a large part of society. However, the main difference between the caste system in the novel and the modern concept of class in America is that the former was forced upon by other people while the latter was not. In short, the people who belong to different classes in todays society always have the freedom to direct their own lives while the humans who are divided according to the

Alices Adventures in Wonder Land, James and the Giant Peach Essay
Alice's Adventures in Wonder Land, James and the Giant Peach 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' was written by Lewis Carroll in 1865. It was written for children and is a story of a twelve year old girl who falls down a rabbit hole. On her adventures, the protagonist, Alice, comes across many weird and wonderful scenes, sites and characters. She comes across many creatures and animals with anthropomorphic behaviour. The entire story is set in a strange world of continuous change. 'James and the Giant Peach', written by Roald Dahl in 1965, is also a book written for children. It is about a boy called James, who is also the protagonist and is also a similar age as Alice, and he comes across a huge peach. This peach contains giant insects, which talk. There are several similarities between these two stories, including the fact that the protagonist is a child who goes through magical and strange scenes that are packed with fantasy and wonder. Also, the characters that they meet along their way are, in both stories, creatures and animals who behave anthropomorphically. James is taken through many adventures and situations of great excitement. He lives in and lives off the peach which he has become stranded upon whilst floating at sea. Eventually, in the climax of the story, the peach ends out flying over New York City with the aid of Seagulls. This is a modern child's story, and even with a century between the publishing of James and Alice, the two stories are incredibly alike in scene structure and character relevance. In both stories there are wonderful but bizarre characters that influence the story and how it develops. In Alice, a strong influence of the story is the Cheshire Cat. Using riddles a... ...er influence, I have come to the conclusion that 'Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland' simply isn't as enjoyed by children as it used to be. It is too out of the ordinary and merely unbelievable. Fantasy works with the imagination, but this story is just too fantastical. The introduction of the animated film has also discouraged children from reading the book, because not as much effort has to be put in just to understand what's happening. This is the case with modern stories as well. For example, the Harry Potter stories are released as films as well as in books, yet many children still enjoy and are inspired to read the books as well as watching the films. Basically 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' has passed its time, and in the modern day requires too much concentrating, hard work and deep thought to be enjoyed. Easily read stories, are easily enjoyed.

She Dwelt Among Untrodden Ways
The poem She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways use the elements of theme, metaphors, and persona to draw the attention of the reader. They also show the intent and feelings that the author wanted to show in his writings. It was written by William Wordsworth who has been known for his style of romance and nature. ââ¬Å"For Wordsworth, passion in poetry is not merely the subject of a poem but also the means of its expression and its resultant effectâ⬠(Robinson, 2010, Para 1).Each one contributes to the other to form a very sentimental and romantic style of poetry. The theme of this poem is about the love for a woman that he never pursued. He speaks highly of this woman for her beauty, and how she stood out from all others. He also never really speaks about ever being with her or even talking to her. In the last four lines he speaks of her death and how she was unknown to many. This leads to believe that no one would miss her as much as he would.I do not think it is so much lust as it was admiration for this unrecognized beauty, so he admired a beautiful woman that he never actually pursues until it was too late. The theme sets the mood for whom and what he is writing about when reading the poem. If this theme is taken into perspective while reading it; the reader can see this secret admirer. The reader, per say, could imagine a man who passes by daily seeing this poor maid or farm girl, who know one really acknowledges, and sees the beauty in her. But before he can pursue her it is too late, she has already passed away.
